TinCaps As Hot As The Sun At Dayton
DAYTON, Ohio – On a scorching 90-degree day, the TinCaps rode sizzling bats to a 7-3 win over the Dayton Dragons on Sunday afternoon at Fifth Third Field.
The TinCaps (35-28) salvaged the series finale after dropping the first two games against the Dragons (17-46). Fort Wayne posted a four-run second inning and added a run in the sixth and two in the seventh to avoid the sweep.
Once again, TinCaps All-Stars Michael Gettys (3-for-5, 2B, BB) and Austin Allen (3-for-5, R, 2 RBIs, BB) powered the offense. Catcher A.J. Kennedy (4-for-5, 2 R, 2 2B) notched the first four-hit game of his career, and second baseman Peter Van Gansen (3-for-5, RBI, 3B) contributed to the 17-hit output.
Fort Wayne All-Star right-handed starter J.C. Cosme (W, 7-2) dealt six innings of two-run ball, allowed just four hits and no walks and fanned six.
TinCaps right fielder Jhonatan Peña started the scoring with an RBI groundout in the second. Left fielder Kodie Tidwell added an RBI single, and Van Gansen scored on a wild pitch. Allen chipped in with an RBI base knock to stretch the lead to 4-0.
In a 4-2 game in the sixth, third baseman Carlos Belen smacked an RBI triple to the right-field corner to plate Allen. Then in the seventh, Van Gansen’s sacrifice fly and Allen’s RBI single made it a 7-2 game.
Dragons All-Star starter Austin Orewiler (L, 1-4) allowed four runs on nine hits and four walks in 3.2 innings.
