UPDATE: Additional Information On Outage-Causing Accident
SYRACUSE — An accident on Harkless Drive last Thursday, June 9, caused a power outage in Syracuse that lasted a good portion of the day.
At approximately 6:33 a.m. Thursday, June 9, officers with the Syracuse Police Department received a call about a one-vehicle accident. They arrived to find a silver 2002 Chevrolet pickup truck, driven by Charles P. Murphy, 51, EMS T13 Lane, Leesburg, lying on its side, entangled in power lines.
Murphy claimed he had swerved to miss a dog and his truck veered off the road, striking one NIPSCO utility pole, two fences and a second utility pole before overturning in the roadway. Both utility poles were snapped in two and the power was knocked out to a portion of Syracuse.
Murphy was transported to Kosciusko Community Hospital with complaints of pain to his head. The outage lasted much of the day and affected approximately 200 NIPSCO customers.
