Newt Green III-UPDATED
Newt Green III, 67, Mentone, passed unexpectedly on June 13, 2016, at his residence.
He was born on Feb. 2, 1949, in Charleston, W. Va., to Newt and Alice Mae (Mullins) Green.
In earlier years Newt worked as a dispatcher for the Warsaw Police Department and in Georgia he was a gunsmith and worked in the Sheriff’s Department in Atlanta where he repaired and cleaned guns. More recently people knew him as a wheeler dealer around the Mentone area.
Newt served his country in the United States Marine Corp. in Vietnam as a sharp shooter and received a Purple Heart Medal as well as other medals. He rode with the Jester Riding Club of Peru, for charities for children and other benefit rides and always collected tabs for Riley’s Children Hospital. He had a giving heart and wanted to help others.
He is survived by his daughters: Balinda Jo Vasquez, California; and Lisa Ann Green; brothers: Gene Boggs, Muncie; Virgil (Joyce) Bradley, Wellston, Ohio; Sam (Terry) Green, Fort Wayne; and sisters: Dixie Coleman, Fort Wayne; Dorothy Williams, Wellston, Ohio; and Lorrie (Gary) Trebby, Wellson, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother-in-law; and a sister-in-law.
His burial will take place at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va., at a later date. Visitation is from 4-7 p.m. Saturday, June 18, at King Memorial Home, Mentone.
