Weldy Arrested On Domestic Battery Charges
NAPPANEE — A Nappanee woman has been arrested after allegedly battering her husband during a domestic disturbance earlier this spring.
A court affidavit states at approximately 6:58 p.m. Monday, April 4, Dominic Weldy arrived at the Nappanee Police Department, bleeding from his lip. He spoke via phone with a dispatcher, then left the lobby and returned to his vehicle.
Officer Kevin Burckhart went to the parking lot to speak with Dominic Weldy, who said his wife, Angela Weldy, 21, 210 Stonewall Court, Nappanee, had battered him. He detected the smell of alcohol on Dominic’s breath and administered a field sobriety test. Dominic failed the field test and agreed to a chemical test, which he passed.
Officers then drove Dominic home, where they spoke with Angela. She stated Dominic had been at a local bar and she had gone to get him and an argument had ensued. She went on to say that, when the couple returned home from the bar, Dominic was angry to see a friend was watching their two children and she had to put herself between him and the friend.
After the friend left, the couple began arguing again and Angela went into the bedroom, then into the bathroom to confront Dominic, who had made a comment she later could not recall. Both stated Angela put her hand in Dominic’s face and his lip began to bleed. Neither could recall whether Angela’s hand made contact with his lip, but Dominic believes her finger may have scratched it.
Officers later arrested Angela on charges of domestic battery, a class A misdemeanor. They also called the Department of Child Services to inform them of the incident.
