ELKHART COUNTY — The Goshen Painter’s Guild and Elkhart County Parks are co-hosting an art related event called “Plein Air in the Parks.” Painters from everywhere and of all skill levels are welcome to do an open air painting in any of the Elkhart County Park properties between now and July 23.

The eligible parks include Bonneyville Mill County Park, Ox Bow County Park, Cobus Creek County Park, Treasure Island Park and the River Preserve County Park which includes DeFries Gardens. Artists can paint in the parks daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Finished work will be turned in and then judged. A special judge will select several pieces for a juried art show with cash prizes. That show will take place at the Goshen Painter’s Guild on Friday, Aug. 5. The show will be part of Goshen First Fridays and will include a silent auction.

There will also be a second competition. This one takes place from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, July 16. It is a one day quick paint competition at DeFries Gardens. Registration starts at 8:30 a.m.
The cost to enter one or both competitions is $20 for up to two paintings. Entry for up to two more additional paintings is $10 each.
