Pitching Coming Through For Cubs
SOUTH BEND – South Bend got more strong starting pitching Wednesday as the Cubs defeated Lake County 8-2 at Four Winds Field.
Ryan Kellogg (3-4) threw six innings allowing only five hits and two unearned runs to collect the win. The victory was the first for Kellogg since April 21st.
The Cubs starting rotation over their first seven starts of the Midwest League’s second half have posted a record of 6-1 with an ERA of 1.04.
Eddy Martinez went 2-for-4 for South Bend with a pair of doubles including a bases clearing two bagger in the fourth inning.
South Bend scored five times in the fourth to take an 8-1 lead.
Eloy Jimenez doubled in a run in the fourth to push his on-base streak to 20 games.
The Cubs will go for the series win in game four of the set Thursday at 7:05 p.m. with Preston Morrison (7-3, 2.97).
