TinCaps Stage Two-Out Rally [VIDEO]
FORT WAYNE – Peter Van Gansen drew a two-out, bases-loaded walk in the ninth inning to score Ruddy Giron and give the TinCaps a 4-3 win over the Dayton Dragons (Cincinnati Reds) on Tuesday night at Parkview Field.
Giron reached base after beating out a third strike that bounced away from Dayton (1-5 second half, 22-54 overall). The wild pitch sparked a Fort Wayne (4-2, 40-36) rally.
Tyler Moore laced a single on the next pitch, then a walk from Kodie Tidwell set the stage for Van Gansen’s heroics.
After falling behind 1-2, the second baseman watched three straight Sarkis Ohanian (L, 0-1) pitches miss the strike zone.
TinCaps reliever Lou Distasio (W, 1-0) struck out the side in the ninth inning to record his first win of the season. Fort Wayne starter Thomas Dorminy surrendered three runs over five frames, while Corey Kimber allowed just one hit in three shutout innings of work.
Tidwell opened the scoring during the first frame. He doubled, reached third thanks to a Van Gansen sacrifice and touched home on an Austin Allen ground ball.
In the second, Tidwell plated Giron on a sac fly.
Dayton climbed back during the fourth inning, notching three runs to take a 3-2 lead. In the bottom of the eighth, the TinCaps evened the score when Allen’s RBI single scored Tidwell.
Dragons starter Ty Boyles allowed two runs over seven frames.
The third meeting of the four-game set—which is currently knotted at one win apiece—is set for Wednesday afternoon at Parkview Field.
Next between the two teams is Wednesday with a 12:05 p.m. first pitch.
