SYRACUSE — Dewart Lake held its annual flotilla Monday afternoon, July 4. Dark clouds in the sky held the threat of rain, but the rain held off to allow the flotilla to proceed.
Mild weather for the Fourth of July with the temperature hovering in the low 70s made for a comfortable day to watch the flotilla.
Boats began gathering at approximately 1:30 p.m. for the flotilla in the northwest portion of the lake near the Department of Natural Resources public access site. The flotilla began as scheduled at about 2 p.m. and proceeded in an easterly direction.
Boats were decorated in the Indiana Bicentennial theme. Plaques and money were awarded as prizes for first, second and third place. Placing first was John Miller, second place was Mike Golden and third place was Bill Beer.
There were a total of eight entrants in the flotilla.
- Another boat to the right makes its way to the starting point for the flotilla.
