Donald R. Herron Sr.
Donald R. Herron Sr., 79, Churubusco, passed away at 9:15 p.m. Friday, July 15, 2016, at his home, with family by his side.
Mr. Herron was born on Aug. 16, 1936, in Fort Wayne, a son of Kenneth and Emily (Waters) Herron. He spent his formative years in northwest Allen county, and graduated from Churubusco High School in 1955.
On Aug. 2, 1958, he was married at the Churubusco United Methodist Church to Gail L. Stoops.
He was employed as a meat cutter for Myer’s A and P, Rogers, and retired from Egolf’s IGA.
Mr. Herron was a member of the C City Bass Anglers. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, Linda and Mac Millington, Sharon Meitz, and Nancy and Jack Endsley. He was a passionate IU fan. He enjoyed processing deer for hundreds of local hunters, but was the most happy bass fishing with his brother, Jim.
His wife, Gail, preceded him in death on July 26, 2010.
The surviving relatives include three sons: Donald (Michelle Heitkamp) Herron Jr.; Anthony E. (Lea Ann) Herron, both of Churubusco; and Nicholas D. (Lisa) Herron, Waterloo; a brother: Jim Herron, Churubusco; ten grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents: Kenneth and Emily (Waters) Herron; and a sister: Sandra Speakman.
Memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 19, at Sheets and Childs Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends at the Sheets and Childs Funeral Home from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, July 19.
Burial will be at a later date in the Eel River Cemetery, Allen County.
