Community Theatre Holding Auditions For Fall Show
WARSAW — Center Street Community Theatre announced plans for a fall production of, “Over the River and Through the Woods,” by Joe DiPietro.
Auditions will be from 6:30-8 p.m. Sunday, July 24, Monday, 25, and Tuesday, July 26, in the basement fellowship hall at Warsaw First United Methodist Church.
The cast will include two males ages 60 and older, two females ages 60 and older, one male late 20s to 30s and one female late 20s to 30s. The audition format will be a cold reading, in which participants read directly from the script, rather than preparing monologues.
The organization asks that cast hopefuls come with their schedules of conflicts for the fall between Monday, Aug. 1, and the show. This is an ensemble show and will require everyone to be at most rehearsals but the theatre will limit rehearsals to two or three per week until the weeks leading up to the show.
Performances are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Fridays, Sept. 30, and Oct. 7, and Saturdays, Oct. 1, and Oct. 8 at the Wagon Wheel Center for the Arts. A matinee is set for 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 9. Jennifer K. Shepherd will direct the show. Cost will be $12 per ticket.
First performed in 1998, “Over the River and Through the Woods” is a sentimental comedy, according to the organization. The main character, Nick, is a “single, Italian-American guy” who has dinner with his four grandparents every Sunday. Because his parents and sister have all moved away, Nick is the only relative living close to the grandparents. When Nick tells them he has been offered a dream job that will take him away, the news does not sit well. The grandparents begin a series of schemes to keep Nick around. Themes include family, the American dream, loving and letting go and relationships. According to theatre leadership, there won’t be a dry eye in the theatre at the end.
Center Street Community Theatre is under the Wagon Wheel Center for the Arts umbrella. Past productions include, “You Can’t Take It With You,” “Almost Maine,” “M*A*S*H” and “The Foreigner.” Those interested in acting are invited join the theatre for auditions. Opportunities this year have expanded to helping back stage and technically, ushering and helping with concessions.
