Love, Ashpole Among Manchester Academic All-Americans
NORTH MANCHESTER – Manchester University’s 2015-16 women’s squad was tabbed an Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division All-Academic Team, while three members of the men’s program were named scholar-athletes with the awards’ announcement Thursday, July 21.
More than 4,200 scholar-athletes were recognized across all divisions, along with over 700 all-academic teams. The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any member program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All varsity letterwinners are factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year (including fall 2015 and spring 2016).
In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status, a student-athlete must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letterwinner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters (including freshman through senior year).
Besides being one of two only two Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference all-academic team awardees, women’s student-athletes Katy Ashpole (Leesburg, Ind.), Alaina Beckner (Columbia City, Ind.), Adriana Brown (Columbia City, Ind.), Rissa Loc (Kalamazoo, Mich.), Katie Peden (North Manchester, Ind.) and Melinda Penrod (Pennville, Ind.) were selected for the scholar-athlete accolade, too. MU’s men’s scholar-athlete honorees were Tyler Klein (Cambridge City, Ind.), Kyler Love (North Webster, Ind.) and Connor Eichenauer (North Manchester, Ind.).
