Late Run Lifts Lake County
EASTLAKE, Ohio – David Armendariz scored the decisive run on a wild pitch in the eighth inning, as the Lake County Captains beat the South Bend Cubs 5-4 on Wednesday.
Armendariz scored after he led off the inning with a double and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt.
The Captains tied the game 4-4 when Sam Haggerty scored on a double play in the sixth.
Cortland Cox (5-1) got the win with 2 1/3 innings of scoreless, one-hit relief while Tanner Griggs (1-1) took the loss in the Midwest League game.
For the Cubs, Matt Rose doubled and singled twice. Alberto Mineo homered and singled, driving home three runs.
Despite the loss, South Bend is 9-4 against Lake County this season.
The series resumes Thursday evening.
