INDOT Announces Elkhart County Road Work
ELKHART COUNTY — INDOT contractors, Walsh and Kelly Inc., are planning several traffic shifts as work continues on the added travel lane project at C.R. 52 in Nappanee.
Beginning Monday, Aug. 1, weather pending, the center lane of S.R. 19 at C.R. 52 will be closed, with traffic shifted onto either side of the ongoing work.
Later this month, contractors will again shift traffic. This time drivers will be shifted to the newly constructed southbound lane and shoulder while the left turn lanes are built. During this phase of construction, the east leg of C.R. 52 will be closed to through-traffic. A 12-foot lane will be maintained on C.R. 52 for residents to access their homes.
An advisory speed of 45 miles per hour continues to be in effect through the construction zone. INDOT reminds drivers to use caution when traveling through any active construction zone.
The project is scheduled to be completed in early November, weather permitting. It is being constructed in conjunction with added left-turn lanes at C.R. 38.
The contract for the joint project was awarded to Walsh & Kelly, Inc., for $2.9 million.

INDOT also announced S.R. 19 in Elkhart County is scheduled to be resurfaced roday, Monday, Aug. 1, weather permitting. The resurface work will take place from .17 miles north of S.R. 119 to .32 miles north of U.S. 20.
During the day, motorists are cautioned to watch for lane shifts, stopped traffic and flaggers in the construction zone. INDOT reminds drivers to use caution and consider worker safety when driving through any active work zone.
Work on the $2 million resurface contract awarded to Walsh and Kelly Inc., is expected to be completed by late October, weather permitting.
