Cubs Keep Rolling, Knock Off Loons
MIDLAND, Mich. – Connor Myers doubled and singled twice, and Jose Paulino allowed just five hits over seven innings as the South Bend Cubs beat the Great Lakes Loons 5-2 on Tuesday.
Paulino (1-0) allowed two runs while striking out four and walking two to pick up the win.
Great Lakes started the scoring in the first inning when Brendon Davis and Logan Landon hit RBI singles.
South Bend answered in the next half-inning when Matt Rose hit a two-run home run.
The Cubs took the lead for good in the fifth when Eddy Martinez hit an RBI single, bringing home Myers.
Alexander Hermeling (2-4) went two innings, allowing three runs and six hits while striking out one in the Midwest League game. Jared Cheek recorded his first save of the season.
