Dorminy Powers Caps To 2-1 Win
SOUTH BEND – Fort Wayne starting pitcher Thomas Dorminy shined, as the TinCaps topped the South Bend Cubs, 2-1, on Thursday night at Four Winds Field.
Dorminy (W, 3-3) tossed six shutout innings and left with a 2-0 lead, and the bullpen hung on late as Fort Wayne (17-23 second half, 53-57 overall) leveled the three-game series with the Cubs (26-14, 67-42) at a game apiece. Dorminy surrendered just four hits and notched two strikeouts.
The TinCaps snatched a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when catcher Austin Allen smoked an RBI single up the middle to plate shortstop Ruddy Giron and extend his hitting streak to 19 games.
In the fifth, TinCaps left fielder Tyler Moore extended the lead to 2-0 when he lined his first professional home run over the wall in left field.
TinCaps left-hander José Castillo fanned three in 2.1 innings but left with a runner aboard in the ninth. Righty David Bednar (S, 1) allowed a Tyler Alamo RBI single to allow the Cubs to get within one, but the rookie slammed the door shut to secure the victory.
Cubs right-handed starter Casey Bloomquist (L, 7-6) allowed two runs on eight hits in 6.2 innings.
The two neighbors square off again Friday at 7:30 p.m.
