Triton Golf: Trojans Endure Long Night
WARSAW – It was a long night, but sometimes that isn’t a bad thing. The girls golfers from Triton, Whitko and North Miami slugged it out on the Rozella Ford course Monday night, with Triton posting a 281 in the nine-hole match to take honors.
North Miami came home at 328 and Whitko, with just three active golfers, did not receive a team score on a night where all three coaches were looking at the event as a chance to get some needed early-season experience.
Triton used 63s from each of its top two golfers, Kate Gardner and Sam Edington, to lead the club. Megan McFarland had a 71 and Alysha May finished at 84.
Whitko’s squad likely would have came away with the win had it came with a full deck. With two girls back in South Whitley with prior commitments, the Wildcats had Holly Hathaway lead the field with a 51 and Claire Reiff at 56. Alexys Rider ended up at 71.
North Miami was led by Tatym Hunt shoot a 57 to lead the Warriors. Courtney Bowen (72), Bella McBride (94) and Taylor Anderson (105) concluded its team scores.
Lakeland Christian Academy’s Abigail Fishel played as one and shot a 60.
Whitko plays again today at Sycamore Hills against South Wells at 4:30 p.m. Triton will visit Stonehenge on Thursday against Warsaw and Rochester.
