Vasquez Walks Off For Dayton
DAYTON, Ohio – James Vasquez hit a walk-off single in the 10th inning, as the Dayton Dragons topped the South Bend Cubs 6-5 on Sunday.
Nick Senzel scored the game-winning run after he led off the inning with a double and advanced to third on a wild pitch.
The Dragons tied the game 5-5 in the bottom of the ninth when Josciel Veras hit a solo home run.
Reliever Ryan Hendrix (2-0) picked up the win after he struck out one while allowing one hit over three scoreless innings. Dillon Maples (1-2) went two innings, allowing two runs and four hits in the Midwest League game. He also struck out two and walked one.
Veras homered and doubled, driving home two runs in the win.
Connor Myers homered and singled, driving in two runs for the Cubs.
Despite the loss, South Bend is 12-5 against Dayton this season, but the Dragons have won now two in a row. South Bend (32-17) continues to the next leg of its 11-game road trip with four at Bowling Green, starting at 7:35 p.m. Monday night. The Hot Rods currently hold a half-game lead in the Eastern Division over the Cubs.
