Caps Fall On Road Again
DAYTON, Ohio – Both Tyler Selesky and Ruddy Giron homered for the TinCaps on Tuesday night, but Fort Wayne fell to the Dayton Dragons, 3-2.
The Dragons (18-33, 39-82) broke a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the eighth inning with a sacrifice fly from Nick Senzel to plate Luis Gonzalez, who led the frame off with a triple against David Bednar (L, 2-3).
At one point, the TinCaps (20-31, 56-55) led 2-0. Giron smacked the first pitch of the third inning over the fence in left-center field for his second home run of the season. Then in the fourth, Selesky launched the first long ball of his professional career down the right-field line. The rookie has now reached base safely in each of his first 19 games with Fort Wayne. He’s hit safely in 16 of those contests.
However, Dayton, had an answer in the home fourth. Shane Mardirosian mashed a game-tying two-run shot. That was the only blemish on Anderson Espinoza’s resume over four innings. He struck out four and didn’t walk a batter, while allowing five hits.
Three Dragons relievers teamed for four scoreless innings. Manuel Aybar (W, 3-5) worked the seventh and eighth, while Sarkis Ohanian (S, 12) pitched a perfect ninth.
Second baseman Peter Van Gansen and catcher Austin Allen both had two singles for the TinCaps.
The two teams continue their series Wednesday night with a 7:00 p.m. start.
