NIHHC Back-To-School Health Fair Offers Free Book Bags And Health Screenings
WARSAW — The Northern Indiana Hispanic Health Coalition, hosted a back-to-school health fair from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 13 at The Career Center Gym (Warsaw Community High School), located at 1 Tiger Lane Warsaw. This event was organized thanks to the NIHHC, the K21 Health Foundation, Warsaw community Schools, the National Kidney Foundation of Indiana and MedStat Lutheran Health Network.
The event was a huge success for our community with 200 attendees who were offered the following free health screenings: lipid panels (total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, triglycerides), glucose, blood pressure, body mass index, anemia (for children and adults), kidney screenings, Masterson Chiropractic offered back screenings and Walgreens provided flu shots. Parents received over 1,500 free health screenings totaling over $43,000 in value.
Thanks to Anthem and MHS, who donated bookbags with school supplies, the NIHHC was able to distribute them to 300 children in grades kindergarten through sixth.
The NIHHC will be providing another opportunity for free health screenings. The NIHHC will be a part of this year’s Family Safety Day from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10 at the Center Lake Pavilion in Central Park, located at 119 E Canal St, Warsaw. At the Family Safety Day, the NIHHC will be offering the following free health screenings: anemia (for children and adults), glucose, blood pressure, body mass index, oxygen saturation and total cholesterol. All the free screenings will also include a one-on-one explanation of what each result means, and with concrete ways on how each person can improve their health.
