Valley Sports Wrap: Aug. 18
Volleyball
After rallying for a five-game thriller Tuesday at Wawasee, the Valley spikers couldn’t get its motor running in a three-game loss at West Noble. The Chargers squashed any hope of a long night with a 25-22, 25-17, 25-10 final.
Stat leaders for the Valley varsity were Sophie Bussard with six kills and four blocks, Emily Peterson with seven assists and Abby Betten with eight digs.
The West Noble JV also got a straight game win, taking it 25-13, 25-17 over Valley. Leading the Valley was Marlea Myers with four digs and a pair of aces.
Valley (1-1) opens its home campaign Monday against Marion. The JV will play first in the Plymouth Tourney Saturday morning.
Girls Golf
Firing a season-best 214, Tippecanoe Valley split with Warsaw and Wabash at Round Barn. Warsaw’s 186 led the bunch while Wabash came in at 223, serving as the split for the host Vikings.
Makayla Sandbakken paced the Vikings with a 48 and teammate Victoria Biddle was one back at 49. Blake McBrier shot a 54, Bethany Johnson a 63 and Lexi Cumberland a 65.
Warsaw had the match medalist in Madi Graham, who led the field with a 41. Page Desenberg posted a 46, followed by Delaney Wihebrink at 49, Izzy Ray at 50 and Madelyn Ray at 51.
Warsaw’s JV team best Valley’s JV 236-312. Grayson Kilburn led Warsaw with a 47 and Jordan Krotke had Valley’s top score at 65.
Tippecanoe Valley will compete Saturday in the Rochester Invite at Round Barn while Warsaw will host its own Invite Saturday at Stonehenge.
Boys Tennis
Straight set wins at all courts carried the Vikings to a 5-0 season-opening win over North Judson.
Keith Wright led the way with a 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 1 singles for Valley.
Seth Hoffman posted a 7-6 (7-3), 6-4 victory and Eric Wright prevailed 6-3, 6-0 at No. 2 and 3 singles respectively for the winners.
The duo of Dakota Parker and Garrett Feldman notched a 6-3, 7-6 (7-6) win at No. 1 doubles. The shutout was complete as the team of Dylan Sponseller and Alex Kromkowski won 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles.
The Vikings will compete in the Lewis Cass Invitational on Saturday.
The Valley tennis team opened up their season with a win over North Judson 5 to 0.
