Wild Eighth Leads Lugnuts To Win
LANSING, Mich. – John La Prise scored on a wild pitch in the eighth inning, leading the Lansing Lugnuts to a 5-2 win over the South Bend Cubs on Friday.
The play came in the midst of a five-run inning and tied the game 2-2. Later in the inning, Lansing took the lead when Justin Atkinson hit a two-run triple and then added to it when Atkinson scored on a wild pitch.
In the top of the sixth, South Bend scored on a balk that brought home Andruw Monasterio. In the following at-bat, P.J. Higgins scored on an error to give the Cubs a 2-0 lead.
Daniel Young (1-1) got the win in relief while Carson Sands (7-3) took the loss in the Midwest League game. Andrew Case retired the side in order for his seventh save of the season.
The two teams will get back at it Saturday night, a 7 p.m. start.
