North Webster Library To Reveal Bison-tennial Bison Statue
NORTH WEBSTER — The North Webster Community Public Library’s Bison-tennial bison statue has been painted and completed by Barrett family artists composed of Trent and Kerry Barrett and Kasha Lacob.
The library is keeping it under wraps, though, until its unveiling during the upcoming North Webster Cemetery Walk Sunday, Sept. 11.
Named Wooly Webster, the bison statue is part of the Indiana Bison-tennial public art project. The library will also hold a question/answer contest about Wooly Webster during the cemetery walk. As patrons view the bison, they will have the opportunity to answer five questions. Correct answers will be entered in a drawing that will be held the next day, Sept. 12.
Those who come to the Cemetery Walk and Wooly Webster’s unveiling can enter the contest for a chance to win a pair of Amish Acres Round Barn Theater tickets.
The library’s National Peace Officer Week presentation done last May by Ray Wolfenbarger is is now available for viewing online at the library’s website.
Ray Wolfenbarger of the South Bend Police Department made headlines in December, 2001, when, as a South Bend patrol officer, he was critically wounded in the line of duty. In his presentation, he talks about his ordeal, his recovery, his police experience and his return to duty in the Detective Bureau Crime Lab, along with the fascinating work of police forensics. To view his video presentation, simply log onto the library’s website and go to the Local History and Genealogy Page, then click on “Presentation Videos” on the right hand side. Also available for viewing are presentations from local veterans, long-time residents, and persons from other cultures. Even when unable to attend, patrons can still enjoy library events online.
Make and take card class is something you need to attend to enjoy. In this hands-on class at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 1, patrons learn how to make their own original greeting cards. The class costs $7 and includes all card-making supplies. Pre-registration is required. To register, sign up at the circulation desk or call (574) 834-7122.
Many new audio books have been added to the library’s collection.
