West Michigan Gets By South Bend
SOUTH BEND – Will Allen hit an RBI single in the seventh inning, and Jose Azocar had four hits as the West Michigan Whitecaps topped the South Bend Cubs 6-5 on Tuesday.
The single by Allen, part of a two-run inning, tied the game 5-5 before Cam Gibson hit an RBI single later in the inning.
Zac Houston (1-0) got the win with 1 2/3 innings of scoreless, one-hit relief while Carson Sands (7-4) took the loss in the Midwest League game. Mark Ecker pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings for his third save of the season.
Adonis Paula doubled and singled, driving home two runs for the Cubs. Eloy Jimenez, the newly named MVP of the Midwest League, homered for the 13th time this season.
Both teams come back to Four Winds Field Wednesday for a 7:05 p.m. start.
