Triton Sports Wrap: Aug. 25
Volleyball
Pioneer stayed ahead of Triton just enough to keep the momentum in its favor throughout Thursday evening, winning 3-0 in Hoosier North Athletic Conference volleyball action at the Trojan Trench.
The conference opener for both clubs had Pioneer win game one 25-10, using a 10-2 run to take a 13-5 lead, then a 10-3 run to close it out. Game two had Pioneer take an 11-5 lead early, but Triton roared back to take a 22-21 lead, only for Pioneer to rattle off four of the final five points to win 25-23. Game three was much less interesting, with the visitors winning 25-19.
Match statistics had Nicole Sechrist register 10 kills and four solo blocks, Quinn Downing dig 12 attempts and Hannah Wanemacher set up 14 points.
Triton (3-2, 0-1 HNAC) will visit Knox next Tuesday.
Cross Country
The Trojan boys and girls cross country teams narrowly beat North Judson Thursday night in Hoosier North Athletic Conference matches. Triton won the boys matchup with 39 points to Judson’s 40, with Knox also competing with a 48. In the girls race, Triton won 27-28, with Knox not scoring in the team standings.
Bailey Watkins won the boys race at 18:43, with Russell Reichard taking fourth at 19:40. Shaun Honeycutt was 10th at 21:01, Josiah Page was 11th at 21:12 and Brock Watkins was 13th at 21:51.
Whytnie Miller won the girls race at 22:43, with Briana Wilhite 25:08 for fifth, Aimee Gladieux at 25:34 for sixth, Abigail Powell at 26:37 for seventh and Michaela Best at 26:38 for eighth.
Triton XC will run again Tuesday at at Bremen with LaVille.
