Valley Football: Vikings Lose Big At Western
RUSSIAVILLE – Tippecanoe Valley finally found the endzone, but Western did so in bunches in beating the Vikings 65-14 Friday night.
Jon Humes caught a touchdown pass in the first quarter for the Vikings from Alec Craig, part of a 14-point first quarter. Western, however, scored 23 points in the opening quarter.
The game was delayed on multiple occasions, including an hour-long lightning delay in the first quarter, and a lengthy delay late in the second quarter for a Western player who needed to be carted off in an ambulance.
The Vikings cut the Western lead to 23-14 in the second quarter on a 17-yard touchdown run by Craig. Western then scored the final 42 points of the game. The hosts scored 20 in the second period to lead 43-14 at halftime.
Craig was 9-15 passing for 110 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions. He also led the Viking rushing attack with 11 carries for 63 yards.
Brandon Webster had four receptions for 66 yards for Valley.
Western outgained the Vikings 501-272 in total yards. The Vikings had six turnovers in the game to just one for the hosts.
Quarterback Tyler Knepley was 10-18 passing for 171 yards and three touchdowns. He also had nine carries for 91 yards and three more scores on the ground. Kitchel Gifford had 10 carries for 130 yards and one touchdown for the winners.
Tippecanoe Valley (0-2) will host North Miami (2-0) Friday night in its homecoming and its Three Rivers Conference opener. Western (1-1) plays at West Lafayette Friday night.
