Warsaw Tennis: Tigers Drop NLC Match
WARSAW – A busy week started off on a tough note for the Warsaw boys tennis team Tuesday night.
Visiting Goshen rallied to win a pair of three-set matches in topping the Tigers by a 4-1 final in Northern Lakes Conference action.
Warsaw, which is also scheduled to play Wednesday and Thursday, drops to 3-2 overall and goes to 1-1 in league play. Goshen improves to 7-1 overall and wins its NLC opener.
Warsaw collected its lone points at No. 1 singles. Junior Colton Lind rallied to top Jacob Grewe 5-7, 6-4, 6-3.
The RedHawks claimed both of the other singles matches. Hugh Birky topped Andrew Gauger 6-1, 7-5 at No. 2. Simon Meyers of Goshen lost his first set 6-1 at No. 3, but then won the final two sets 7-5, 6-2 in topping David Homme.
The doubles courts saw the Goshen tandem of Logan Troyer and Bobby Sessa defeat Justin Stout and Ryan Wettschurack 7-5, 6-4 at No. 1. The tandem of Diego Torres and Nathaniel Wertz rallied for a 3-6, 7-5, 6-1 win over Hayden Steger and Spencer Britton at No. 2 doubles action.
Warsaw won the junior varsity action by a 9-1 count. Winning for the JV Tigers in singles play were Bailey Burht, Kyler Bartol, Brian Elliott and Caleb Williams. Victorious in doubles play for Warsaw were the teams of Nick Marsh and Ethan Hoff, Reuben Williams and Nolan Knight, Brandon Chan and Jarett Orr, Jake Kauffman and Hawkins Ragland and Kanton Waddle and Dawon Villama.
Warsaw plays at Culver Academy Wednesday evening and then hosts Plymouth in NLC play Thursday night. Goshen hosts NLC foe Northridge Thursday night.
The Tigers back in action tomorrow night at Culver Academy.
