West Michigan Storms Past TinCaps
FORT WAYNE – The West Michigan Whitecaps stormed past the TinCaps, 10-2, on Monday night at Parkview Field.
The Whitecaps (29-33 second half, 68-61 overall) rode a six-run fifth inning to the victory over the TinCaps (24-40, 60-74) to secure a split in the four-game series.
Fort Wayne plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Left fielder Tyler Selesky reeled in third baseman Carlos Belen with an RBI single to center, and center fielder Taylor Kohlwey scored on an RBI groundout from right fielder Alan Garcia.
In his second appearance since being activated from the Disabled List, TinCaps starter Logan Allen (L, 3-4) allowed just one run in 3.2 innings with three strikeouts.
West Michigan starter Sandy Baez (W, 7-9) was sharp through five and ended up surrendering just two runs in six innings with eight strikeouts.
Garcia pitched a scoreless ninth inning for the TinCaps and topped out at 91 MPH.
Fort Wayne will be off Tuesday before opening a series at home Wednesday against Great Lakes.
