Kosciusko County Honors and Remembers Korean War Veterans
KOSCIUSKO COUNTY — During September’s First Friday in Warsaw, a special ceremony was held to honor and remember all of Kosciusko County’s Korean War veterans.
Friday’s ceremony co-chair Ken Locke welcomed all veterans to the ceremony in his opening speech.
“We appreciate and are certainly honored that each of you are here today.”
Mayor Joe Thallemer gave the keynote address at the ceremony. He put the Korean War into a historical perspective and spoke about his Honor Flight trip as an escort with his father, Don Thallemer, Korean War Veteran.
“As I close, realize what you’ve accomplished,” concluded Thallemer. “History remembers the brave stand you made at a critical time in history.”
Over 70 veterans showed up to be honored during the ceremony. Each veteran was honored by having their name announced along with their branch of service. Sfc. Jordan Mayfield presented each veteran with their own medallion and offered words of gratitude.
The Armed Forces Medley was also played as each veteran was able to stand during the part of the song that honored their branch.
There was a moment of silence and a 21-gun salute at the conclusion of the evening to honor all of the Korean War veterans who had died and were not present at the ceremony.
“We certainly say thank you to each one of you,” concluded Locke. “We are glad that we took this time to honor each one of you.”
