WARSAW – It was a Happy Homecoming Saturday for the Warsaw junior varsity volleyball team.
The Tigers, who had played their first five matches on the road, defended their homecourt in championship form.
Undefeated Warsaw claimed three wins in the Tiger Den to win its own tournament title.
The Tigers, coached by former WCHS standout Chandra Hepler, beat South Bend Adams 25-15, 25-16, Homestead 25-17, 25-23 and Rochester 25-13, 25-6 to claim the hardware.
Cassadi Colbert powered the offense on the day for the champions with a total of 15 kills. Jamie Grose slammed 11 kills, while Emma Gelbaugh had eight, Gwyn Bellamy seven and Addie Dickerhoff six.
The tandem of Dickerhoff and Megan Sullivan led the serving parade as each collected seven aces in the three wins. Grose and Amy Herendeen each had six aces, while Colbert had five and Gelbaugh four.
Herendeen led the defense for the Tigers with 21 digs. Dickerhoff totaled nine digs, while Courtney Chookie had seven. Bellamy and Colbert, along with Kenzie Martz, each had five digs.
Dickerhoff finished with 40 assists and Emali Grose added two. Colbert and Martz each had two blocks.
Warsaw improves to 8-0 on the season. The Tigers, who are 2-0 in Northern Lakes Conference play, will host league foe Northridge Tuesday night at 5:30 p.m.
