Wawasee Sports Wrap: Sept. 3
JV Football
The Wawasee JV football team fell 14-7 at Northridge. Kevin Weikert was credited with a fumble recovery in the contest for Wawasee.
The Warriors are no 0-2 and will host Concord on Saturday.
Boys Soccer
The boys soccer team went on the road to Huntington North and took a 2-1 loss.
Carter Jones used an assist from Joe LeCount to score Wawasee’s lone goal.
“We had a strong performance out of our back line,” said coach Jordan Sharp. “We’re starting to bring all three units together and we’re looking forward to stringing together some wins.”
The Warriors are now 1-5-1 on the year and host NorthWood on Thursday.
Girls Soccer
The girls soccer team traveled to take on NLC powerhouse Goshen and did not have a great experience. The RedHawks were dominant en route to a 7-0 victory.
“We played hard throughout,” said coach Doug Heinisch. “We had a much better defensive performance to day compared to Thursday. We still need to work on ball skills as we move ahead.”
Wawasee (4-4, 0-2) plays at Whitko on Wednesday.
Wawasee’s JV fell 5-0.
Boys Cross Country
The boys harriers took fourth in the Marion Invite on Saturday. Luke Griner paced the Warriors with a 16:43. Spencer Hare was right behind him at 16:44. Griner and Hare were sixth and seventh, respectively. Sam Griner (17:38) and Bennett Hoffert (17:41) were the other two top-30 finishers for Wawasee.
“Today was a huge step in the right direction,” offered coach Chad Hoffert. “We ran strong and confident and battled up front with our top four.”
Wawasee runs Tuesday at Ox Bow with Concord and Goshen.
Girls Cross Country
The girls cross country team took fifth at the Marion Invite. Wawasee was paced by Elizabeth Zorn, who took 11th overall with a time of 20:12. McKenzie Smith was not far behind as she clocked in at 20:17. Aubrey Kuhn (21:10), Valeria Pizana (22:18) and Bailey Schroeder (22:45) rounded out the top five for Wawasee.
Wawasee runs Tuesday at Ox Bow with Concord and Goshen.
