Grace College Pair Earn Accolades
WINONA LAKE – A pair of Grace College athletes have been honored for their outstanding performances the past week.
Grace No. 1 singles player Natalia Kurkova was named the NCCAA and Crossroads League Player of the Week for the Lady Lancers.
Kurkova was a perfect 6-0 last week for Grace while playing at No. 1 doubles (with Jenna Jackson) and No. 1 singles. Only one of her singles’ matches needed three sets, and she blanked Trine’s top singles’ player 6-0, 6-0.
Grace is 2-for-2 winning the NCCAA National Player of the Week award this season. Carrie Copeland won the NCCAA’s first award of the season last week followed by Kurkova’s announcement on Tuesday.
Cody Boerema has been named the NCCAA National Player of the Week for the men’s soccer team.
Boerema has enjoyed a sizzling start to his collegiate career, scoring four goals with one assist in his first six matches.
Boerema had a goal and an assist last week with both plays key in Grace’s week. His assist in the 89th minute help Grace secure a draw against No. 22 Roosevelt. He also scored a goal against Aquinas as the Lancers (4-0-2) remain unbeaten to start the season.
The Lancers are on the road this week with matches on Friday and Saturday against Harris-Stowe (Mo.) and Bacone (Okla.).
