Warsaw XC: Tiger Teams Among The Ranked
A huge victory by a small school at one of Indiana’s largest high school cross country meets means big changes in this week’s boys state cross country poll.
Tiny Westview High School, enrollment 417, defeated Lowell by two points to win the Class AAA (large school) division at last Saturday’s New Prairie Invitational.
Though the Warriors from Topeka could have competed in Class A with other small schools, the team asked to move up and take on the big boys. Led by Matthew Yoder, who finished fourth among individuals, Westview proved it is one of the state’s elite.
The Warriors move from No. 12 to No. 3 in this week’s Indiana Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches (IATCCC) state poll.
The outstanding Warsaw girls cross country team also made a jump in the polls thanks to their impressive performance Saturday at the New Prairie Invitational. Coach Matt Campbell’s team, which was runner-up to Class AAA champion Penn, is now No. 4. Penn is now ranked No. 3 in the latest poll.
The Warsaw boys cross country team is now No. 22 in the latest poll. Coach Jim Mills’ talented team placed sixth at New Prairie on Saturday, led by individual champion Zeb Hernandez.
Carmel is ranked No. 1 again among both boys and girls.
The Greyhound girls will square off against Penn, Warsaw and several other Top 10 ranked teams at this weekend’s Culver Academies Invitational.
