Beckwith Booked For Theft
WARSAW — Diane B. Beckwith was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail on Sept. 21 for theft after stating she could not go to jail because of her dogs.
On Saturday, Aug. 6, at approximately 5:39 p.m., an officer responded to a report of a theft at Big R. When the officer arrived, he spoke with some Big R employees. Employees told the officer an older female had set off an alarm as she was exiting the store. When she was approached by employees, she stated she took something without paying but couldn’t go to jail because there would be no one to care for her dogs.
The female later identified as Diane B. Beckwith, got into a tan chevy Malibu, with the stolen merchandise and drove out of the parking lot.
An officer located Beckwith’s vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. The officer read Beckwith her Miranda rights. She agreed to speak about the incident and proceeded to tell the officer she took a wind chime and a container of Roundup from Big R without paying.
Beckwith has a previous conviction for conversion in St. Joseph County Superior Court One on Aug. 2, 2006.
Beckwith is being held at the Kosciusko County jail with a bond of $10,250 surety and cash.
