Will McGarvey is the top rusher for Warsaw this season. The Tigers, who are second in the NLC standings, have a huge league game at undefeated NorthWood on Friday night.

The chase for conference championships is headed into the home stretch for local high school football teams.

The regular season has just two weeks left and both Warsaw and Whitko find themselves in position to try and claim a league title.

The Tigers sit at 4-1 and alone in second place in the Northern Lakes Conference standings. Coach Phil Jensen’s team, which has won its last four games to improve to 5-2 overall, has a huge league contest at undefeated NorthWood on Friday. The Class 4-A No. 2 ranked Panthers sit at 7-0 overall and atop the conference at 5-0.

Warsaw, which will finish league play by hosting defending conference champion Concord on Oct. 14, last won the NLC title in 2001. NorthWood’s last league crown came in 2004 as the Panthers shared the title with Wawasee and Concord.

Whitko, ranked No. 11 in the latest Class 2-A AP poll, will play for a share of the Three Rivers Conference North Division crown on Friday night. The Wildcats, who are 4-1 in TRC play, will host division leader Northfield. The Norsemen lead the North Division at 5-0.

Whitko won the TRC North Division title last season with a 3-1 mark.

The TRC will hold its playoff games on Friday, Oct. 14 in the final week of the regular season.
