NorthWood Golf: Stillson Earns Host Of Honors
NAPPANEE – The impressive list of postseason accolades continues to pile up for Summer Stillson.
The NorthWood senior standout golfer has earned a trio of honors from the Indiana High School Golf Coaches Association.
Stillson, who led the Panthers to conference and sectional titles this season, was named 1st Team All-State and 1st Team Academic All-State by the IHSGCA. She was also given the Mitchel J. Winger Courage Award by the association.
Stillson is believed to be the first golfer to win all three honors in the same year. The Winger Courage Award, which is named for the former Whitko golfer, is given to one varsity boy and one varsity girl each year who contribute “to the success of their team despite physical impairments and/or medical conditions.”
Stillson has had bone dysplasia, a growth-hampering condition, her entire life.
The IHSGCA will honor Stillson during its Fall Banquet on Friday, Oct. 7 at The Golf Club of Indiana in Zionsville.
Stillson was also a 1st Team Academic All-State honoree by the Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association.
Stillson helped coach Adam Yoder’s program win overall Northern Lakes Conference championships all four seasons of her brilliant prep career. She is the first golfer from NorthWood to earn All-NLC honors all four years of her high school career.
Stillson helped the Panthers win the Warsaw Sectional title last month with a round of 80 at the Stonehenge Golf Club. She then shot a 79 in the East Noble Regional as the Panthers finished in fourth place, just missing a top three finish and a berth in the State Finals.
Stillson, who has also been an All-NLC selection twice in softball for the Panthers, competed in the regional round of the state tournament series four times and at the State Finals twice. She also excels in the classroom with a 3.99 grade point average.
