Second Session of Fall Classes at Y
WARSAW— Kosciusko Community YMCA will be starting their second session of fall classes on Oct. 24. Classes will run through Dec. 23. Classes for youth will include swim lessons and gymnastics classes for all ages. Classes that promote the Healthy Living aspect of your Y will include group exercise and Indoor Group Cycling classes, classes for older adults and water aerobics in both the Warm Water and Lap Pools; adult classes are included with a Y membership. To support those in our community going through cancer and their caregivers, the Y is hosting “Kathy’s Cancer Conversations,” a volunteer-led cancer support group meeting on the second Monday of each month from 4:30 p.m. go 6 p.m. in the Parkview Center for Healthy Living inside the YMCA. On Oct. 10, they’ll be talking about Cancer Financials. On Nov. 14, Mike Yocum, Wagon Wheel Actor and Grace Professor, will talk about the importance of laughter in health.
The YMCA’s 8 Weeks to Fitness will be starting on Oct. 13. This program is designed to combine regular physical activity with the knowledge and understanding to maintain a healthy weight, reduce the risk of diseases and promote overall health. Personal trainers will help participants set goals and work with you through them and through weekly nutrition accountability for 8 weeks in a small group setting. There will be initial blood work and follow-up blood work by Parkview Health included in the program. Classes meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6:00 a.m. or 6:00 p.m. Participants choose how many classes to attend.
The Y also wants to encourage the community to get tested for pre-diabetes by getting an A1C test. These will be offered for free by Parkview Health on Oct 13, 6 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and for free by the Y on Oct. 24, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., Nov. 15, 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and Dec. 19, 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. This is a quick and easy test with results in less than five minutes. Walk-ins accepted.

The Y will be offering two adult sport leagues starting in October. Adult Co-ed Volleyball will start on Thursdays, Oct. 20, through Dec. 15, 7: p.m. to 9 p.m. for teams of six to nine players. Indoor Soccer will be offered on Sundays, Oct. 2, through Dec 11, 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Grace College Recreation Center.
CPR classes will be offered to the community on Thursday, Oct. 27, 5:30 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. or Dec. 5, 5:30 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. If CPR certification is needed for a job or if someone wants to be more prepared to handle an emergency they can sign up for this American Heart Association Heartsaver CPR class. The class will teach adult, child and infant CPR and AED use, but does not include first-aid. This three-hour class provides a two-year certification. There is a cost for participation and certification.
