New releases
Adult non-fiction new releases include “The Property Brother’s Ultimate Guide to Finding and Fixing Your Perfect House” by Jonathan and Drew Scott and “Evicted: Poverty and Profit in the American City” by Matthew Desmond.
New to the teen section are “Children of Exile” by Margaret Peterson Haddix and “Last Man Out” by Mike Lupica. Michael Hall’s “Wonderfall,” “The Mighty Odds” by Amy Ignatow, and “Hello, Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle” by Betty MacDonald look like fun reads for children.
For adults who enjoy fiction, we’ve added “A Boy Made of Blocks” by Keith Stuart, “The Jealous Kind” by James Lee Burke, and “Leave Me” by Gayle Forman. Entertaining audiobooks include “Blue” by Danielle Steel and “The Secret Language of Sisters” by Luanne Rice.
Season 4 of “Vikings” will be released October 4 and “Ghostbusters: Answer the Call” will be out October 11. “Ice Age: Collision Course” and “Mary Kate and Ashley Travel the World” (a collection of four movies) will be out mid-October.
Lapsit
Lapsit, a storytelling session for infants and children up to 36 months, continues with Miss Kaitlyn this week. Every Tuesday in October she will read stories and sing songs about how “Mice Are Nice.” Lapsit introduces your little one to literature by using stories and songs to create recognition between words and their meanings. Lapsit lasts about 20 minutes. Sessions will be held at 10:45 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Oct. 4.
Spiders Story Time
Join miss Kaitlyn to learn about spiders at fall preschool story time this week. Make a spider to eat as a snack, listen to stories, and create a spider craft. Story time can be an enjoyable experience for the whole family. It doesn’t require any skills or preparation time for parents. It’s for kids aged three to six. Story time is at 10:15 a.m. or 1:30 p.m. on Wednesdays or 7 p.m. on Thursdays. Individuals may register at the children’s circulation desk or by calling (574) 658-4312.
Movie Day
Watch a movie about angry feathered creatures at 2 p.m. October 21 in the Milford Public Library Meeting Room. This is an excellent way to kick off fall break. This movie is rated PG and will last about an hour and a half. Refreshments will be served.
Family Fun Night at the Library
Join us for Magic Don’s “Celebrate Indiana” show at Milford Public Library from 6-8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 24. His “Puzzle Me” magic trick highlights Indiana’s history and geography. The “Indiana Facts and Firsts” is a multiple choice game show that requires audience participation. Come and learn lots of interesting fun facts about Indiana.The show will last for about 45 minutes. The program begins in the library meeting room at we will have hot dogs, chips and a drink after the show.
Lights Out at the Library: “Happy Hoosier Halloween”
Come to Milford Public Library for the twelfth annual Lights Out at the Library, our most popular program of the year. We hope to set a new record this year, so bring the whole family. Join us in celebrating Indiana’s 200th birthday! Meet many famous Hoosiers, like Johnny Appleseed and Papa John, as you take the 15 minute tour through the library. Line up to start the tour at the Main Street doors. At the end of the tour, children will receive their treat! Free fun for the whole family!
