Roberta M. Weiss
Roberta M. Weiss (née Berger) of Bremen died at 1:10 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2016 at South Bend Memorial Hospital.
Roberta was born in Bremen on Nov. 27, 1926, the daughter of Herman and Gladys (Yockey) Berger. Upon the death of her mother at the age of eight years of age, she was raised by her father and Aunt Lola Berger.
She attended Muncie School (Bremen) during her early years and graduated from Bremen High School in 1944. On Nov. 18, 1945 she married her high school sweetheart Stanley Weiss who preceded her in death on July 5, 2002. For nearly twenty years she was employed by the Bremen Public Library for which she was well suited given her love for reading. Roberta’s other interests revolved around faith community including church choir, United Methodist Women and ministries with Stanley.
She was the loving mother of four children who survive her: Sandy (John) Rader, Bremen; Karen (George) Castillo, Elgin, Ill; Cathy Paez, Carey, Ill; and David (Becky) Weiss, Westfield. She is also survived by nine grandchildren: Andrew (Jennie) Rader, Marc (Allison) Rader, Miguel Castillo, Adam Castillo, Ricardo Castillo, Carlos Paez, Jr. (fiancée Christina Kaczorowski), Alberto (Monica) Paez, Christopher (Sarah) Weiss, and Kristen (fiancé Ryan Yutzy) Weiss. Survivors also include twelve great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Roberta was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Katie Castillo, and by her brothers, Delmarr and Lowell Berger; sister, Jeanette Wenger.
Family and friends may call from 9 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service on, Saturday, Oct. 22, 2016 at Bremen United Methodist Church, Bremen. Dr. Scott D. Carmer will officiate. Burial will follow at Bremen Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the staffs of Miller’s Merry Manor in Wakarusa and South Bend Memorial Hospital for their compassionate care.
