MARSHALL COUNTY — Marshall County Sheriff’s Department at Walgreens in Plymouth took part in ridding of potentially dangerous expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs. The event took place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, as a part of the Drug Enforcement Administration Drug Take Back Program.
In the past 10 months the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department has collected 993 pounds of discarded medications.
Marshall County Sheriff’s Department has three drop locations for your unwanted drugs. If you were unable to drop off your unwanted medications Oct. 20, we encourage you to use one of the three drop boxes located at the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department, Culver Police Department or the Bremen Police Department. These bins are available for your access 24 hours a day. All bins are located in the lobby of each department.
The initiative here addresses a vital public safety concern. Medicines that lay in cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse and abuse. Rates of prescription drug abuse are alarmingly high. Studies show the majority of non discarded medicines left in cabinets lead to accidental overdoses and they come from family and friends.
Please do not dispose of your unused medicines by flushing them down the toilet or putting them in the trash.
