New Transportation Van for Kosciusko Community Senior Services With Support From K21
KOSCIUSKO COUNTY — One of the most important programs offered by Kosciusko Community Senior Services is its transportation program. With a population of over 13,000 seniors living in Kosciusko County, KCSS averages nearly 12,000 rides per year, transporting clients to doctor visits, the pharmacy, grocery shopping, and to the Senior Activity Center just to name a few.
The K21 Health Foundation grant of nearly $22,000 helped the organization in two ways. The first was to provide a local match of approximately $9,100, which was required for KCSS to receive an Indiana Department of Transportation grant to purchase a new handicapped-accessible van. The second was a grant of $12,300, which has been used by the organization to develop and implement a maintenance and repairs program on its fleet of vehicles. “The majority of the rides seniors in our county need are for medical and other health-related services. We are grateful that KCSS continues to provide this important service to so many in our county,” shared Rich Haddad, K21 CEO.
“After a bit of a delay in the INDOT grant process KCSS has finally received our new van, which was put into service this month,” said KCSS Executive Director David Neff. “In addition, one of the challenges we face is keeping all of our vehicles running well so that we can meet each of the transportation needs of the seniors we serve. Having funds to cover the costs of general maintenance and repair has helped us tremendously.”
