Students Donate Proceeds From School Play To Fellowship Missions
WARSAW — Students from Warsaw Community High School took part in the special opportunity to give back to the community last weekend during their performance of the play “Sense and Sensibility.”
Every year Dana McAfee’s, WCHS theatre teacher, students do a class project that consists of giving the proceeds of ticket sales and extra donations from a play they perform to a local organization.
McAfee says that she’s been doing this project every year for the last 17 years. McAfee says she and the students like to get creative and find ways to relate their play to the organization they give to.
For instance, the story of “Sense and Sensibility” begins as a family is kicked out of their home, rendering them homeless. This concept gave students the idea to make Fellowship Missions, a local homeless shelter, the organization they donate the proceeds of the show to.
Last weekend, WCHS held two performances of “Sense and Sensibility” in their Black Box Theatre. From both ticket sales and extra donations received, they were able to raise $950 to be donated to Fellowship Missions.
McAfee says that, “The kids love it. It makes them feel really good.”
