UPDATE: Missing Soldier From Avon Found Dead At Fort Hood
INDIANAPOLIS — A missing soldier from Avon has been found dead in his car at Fort Hood in Texas.
Private Dakota Stump went missing from Fort Hood on Oct. 10. The 19-year-old was an indirect fire infantryman with the 1st Calvary Division.
His aunt told 24-Hour News 8 on Friday that Stump was found dead in his car on the base.
Fort Hood officials said Stump’s vehicle was found in a wooded area about 100 yards off of the roadway near Building 43028 on Fort Hood on Nov. 3.
Investigators believe the vehicle left the roadway and entered the woods, then rolled several times. The vehicle was not visible from the road due to “terrain and heavy vegetation.”
Stump, an Avon native, had received the National Defense Service Medal and Army Service Ribbon. He entered active duty in March and had been assigned to 4th Squadron, 9th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, since July.
