WARSAW — The affidavit of probable cause was released this morning for the murder of a two-year old Warsaw girl.
Chistopher A. Grimmet, 29, 53 EMS C17 Lane, Warsaw, is being charged with murder, a felony.
At 10:24 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 10, Kosciusko County dispatch received an initial call of a missing child, Adalin Stamper. Officers arrived on the scene and began interviews with Katie Stamper, the child’s mother, and Grimmett, the mother’s boyfriend. It was determined that Adalin had last been with Grimmett at his brother’s house.
Grimmett originally told the officers that a woman he believed to be Adalin’s grandmother had picked her up at 5 p.m. Grimmett told officers that later in the evening he had taken a taxi back to his brother’s house. The taxi company verified this information and the taxi driver remembered observing blood on Grimmett’s pants.
Officers then received consent to search the brother’s residence. Inside they found a substantial amount of blood. Officers also located a suspicious area in the backyard which appeared to be fresh dirt on a small area where leaves had been cleared.
Officers, along with technicians from the Major Crime Scene Task Force of Kosciusko County, uncovered the dirt and located a child’s body wrapped in white trash bags.
After the discovery, officers returned to speak with Grimmett. Grimmett admitted to beating Adalin to death with his hands and burying her body in the backyard.
An autopsy was conducted and a preliminary determination of the cause of death was determined to be blunt force traumatic injuries.
It is not yet clear why Grimmett murdered the child.
