Council Hears Requests From Public Works Superintendent
SYRACUSE — Robin Merchant, superintendent of public works, made several requests during the Syracuse Town Council’s regular monthly meeting Tuesday night, Nov. 15.
A leaf vacuum purchased in 1995 as used is now beyond repair. Merchant asked to purchase a used unit for $15,000. New units cost around $55,000. The leaf vacuum will come with a 90-day warranty.
The council also approved replacing a lawn mower with 2,100 hours on it. The mower will be a trade worth $2,500 off a new mower which will cost $9,400.
Merchant requested permission to purchase a new sledge conveyor to replace the current one which has to be beaten with a hammer to work. Merchant found a new sledge conveyor for $30,500. The funds will come from the remaining sewer project budget. The new sledge conveyor will be installed and delivered within 120 days.
Merchant is also working with NIPSCO in moving a utility pole.
Merchant reported issues with the aeration equipment at the wastewater treatment center have been resolved.
