ELKHART COUNTY — A Ligonier man was airlifted to Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne, following a two-vehicle accident at SR 13 and CR 50, south of Millersburg.

Omar Ibarra Rangel, 19, Ligonier, driver of a 2010 Chevrolet Malibu, suffered lacerations to arms, a broken right arm and internal head injury. Andrew Troyer, 33, Syracuse, driver of a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado, was not injured.

Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department reported Troyer was eastbound on SR 13 at CR 50 slowing to turn north onto SR 13. Rangel was also eastbound, behind Troyer’s vehicle reportedly at an excessive speed. As Rangel approached Troyer’s vehicle, he lost control and ran into the back of Troyer’s vehicle and then into a tree.

Rangel was cited for unsafe speed and driving while suspended.

Benton Township Fire Department and Turkey Creek Fire Territory paramedics responded.
