Wawasee Wrestling: Warriors, Tigers Grab Wins At Nov. Duals
SYRACUSE – Wawasee continued its hot start to the wrestling season, but the Eagles of Columbia City were one better Saturday at the Wawasee November Duals.
Wawasee went 4-1 in the tournament, its only blemish a 41-24 setback to Columbia City in the final round of the tournament. City went 5-0 to win the team title.
Undefeated wrestlers for Wawasee included Garrett Stuckman at 113 and Alex Castro at 195. Grapplers with a single less included Ricardo Romo (106), Braxton Alexander (120), Isaiah Faroute (132), Raymond Torres (160), Damien Rodriguez (182) and Jeremiah Dilley (195).
Wawasee shut out Whitko 82-0 in round one, then posted a 54-27 win over West Noble, 58-22 win over Warsaw and 52-16 win over DeKalb setting up the de facto championship match with City.
Warsaw tied DeKalb 38-all in its round matchup, losing on a second tiebreaker criteria, then rallied with a 66-15 win over Whitko and 45-29 win against West Noble sandwiching the Wawasee defeat. In its final dual, Warsaw beat Eastside 44-33 in the fifth-place showdown.
Christian Taylor and Kyle Hatch both went 5-0 on the day, Hatch scoring four pins and a technical fall. Gustavo Cartegena went 4-1 and Andrew Owens went 3-1. Brady Stout, Grayson Drudge, and Danny Zamora, Dillon Estepp and Austin Brown all had three wins on the day.
Whitko finished 0-5, losing its final match 48-24 to Fort Wayne South Side.
