Valley Basketball: Appleton Takes A Bite
AKRON – Tippecanoe Valley added a wrinkle to its home Tippecanoe Valley girls basketball tournament, and the newcomers welcomed the challenge.
Appleton North, ranked No. 2 in Class 5-A in Wisconsin, welcomed the invitation to the tournament and rolled both Fort Wayne South, 68-46, and Tippecanoe Valley, 50-39, to claim the championship Saturday evening.
Anne Secrest had 13 points and eight rebounds to lead Valley, but the Wisconsin powers used too much weaponry in the first half, taking a 29-16 lead at the break and holding level with Valley in the second half. Meredith Brouyette added 10 points and three boards and Hannah Dunn had six points and six boards.
Tippy’s first game saw Emily Peterson record the finest game of her career in beating Fort Wayne Wayne 83-20. The sophomore guard finished with 28 points on 11-12 shooting, including 4-5 from three-point land. Peterson had a Chris Paul-like game adding five assists, three rebounds and two steals to just one turnover.
Taniesha Brown chipped in eight points and seven rebounds, Sophie Bussard had seven points, four assists, three rebounds and three steals, Brouyette had nine points and Secrest had 14 points.
Appleton made the final by beating Fort Wayne South 68-46 and Southside rebounded in the consolation game with a 83-32 win against Wayne.
Tippecanoe Valley (5-2) will host Plymouth Thursday evening.
