BREAKING — Four Vehicle Crash On US 31 Claims Life
MARSHALL COUNTY — The Indiana State Police is on scene of a four vehicle crash on US 31 at the intersection of 12th Road near Plymouth. The accident happened shortly before 6:30 a.m. Wednesday morning. The north bound lane of US 31 is expected to be closed until at least 10 a.m. while crash re-constructionists investigate the scene and the vehicles are removed.
Preliminary investigation has shown that a vehicle was attempting to cross US 31 east bound on 12th Road when it purportedly pulled into the path of a north bound car. The collision sent the east bound car into a ditch and left the north bound car disabled in the middle of US 31. The disabled car was then struck two more times by another car and a pickup truck pulling a trailer.
A single driver was taken to South Bend Memorial Hospital by helicopter and their passenger was killed in the crash. A second driver was transported to Saint Joseph Plymouth Medical Center for their injuries. The two other drivers were not injured in the accident.
No other information is available at this time. As details of the crash become available they will be released. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the accident.
