Triton Basketball: Trojans Roll In Home Opener
BOURBON – After a brutal stretch to open the season, Triton got its first win of the year, 79-38, against South Bend Career Academy Tuesday night in boys basketball.
After its bi-annual “circus trip” of visiting Oregon-Davis, Plymouth and NorthWood to open the calendar, Triton met South Bend Career Academy at home in the first-ever meeting between the two schools. A little home cooking is just what Triton needed.
Grant Johnson had a big night, scoring 23 points to go with nine rebounds and three blocked shots. Zac Pitney registered his best game of the season, recording 15 points, six rebounds and five assists and Adam Stevens met the double-digit scoring column for the first time as a varsity player, netting 12 points. Nathan Flenar added nine points for the Trojans.
SBCA had Kennen Boyce pace the squad with 11 points, six rebounds and four assists.
Triton led just 20-13 after the first quarter, but held the Trail Blazers (1-3) to just two second quarter points.
The JV was almost no contest, as Triton won 72-8, racing out to a 26-0 lead after the first quarter. Jared Bules led Triton with 14 points, followed by Delano Shumpert with 13, Ethan Berry with 12 and Tye Orsund with 12.
Triton moves to 1-3 overall and visit Pioneer Friday night in its first Hoosier North Athletic Conference game.
