Her grandchildren and great grandchildren fondly referred to Millie as Mimi. Her kitchen was appropriately labeled by them as “Mimi’s Kitchen.”
After being raised on a farm in southern Illinois, Millie spent almost 25 years in Hammond, where she worked in various capacities; banking, dry cleaning and finally retiring as manager of the school kitchen at Gavit High School.
For the past 35 years Millie resided in Warsaw, most recently at Miller’s Senior Living facility on County Farm Road. Millie truly appreciated the other residents and the care she received at this location! She was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Millie routinely participated in the Church’s senior lady member’s “Lunch Bunch Group.”
After her family, cooking and crocheting were Millie’s passions. She made an untold number of afghans for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her pumpkin pie and banana bread were family favorites! It wasn’t just Mimi’s cooking and crocheting her family loved, they also dearly loved everything about her!
Millie had an extended network of friends. Many originated from her family; she knew no strangers! Millie was an engaging woman with an incredible memory. She was the “go to” person whenever a question of family history arose; Millie always knew the correct answer. Millie, “Mimi,” will be sorely missed by her family and her friends.
